Bev was quick to respond to my query. Very helpful with information and finding times to get me lessons in my wonky schedule. Good, caring instruction from Charlene. A lot of flexibility with times and locations - and a lot of caring and helpful guidance. And they managed to get me test within a week of me finishing my lessons. Passed the first time. They were great.Posted on Google![]()

He is so patient and helped to make the learning to drive experience calming and helped me to feel confident behind the wheel. Always super positive and really fun person to learn to drive with would highly recommended as an instructor especially if you are dyslexic as he has all the patience in the world to help you learn and to make mistakes and never makes you feel bad about it!Posted on Google![]()

For most people, yes. With no clutch and no gear changes, you’ve got two pedals and far fewer things to think about at once. That frees up your attention for the parts of driving that keep you safe: reading the road, judging gaps and spotting hazards early.
London is where automatic driving lessons really show their value. Picture a long queue on a main road, creeping forward a few metres at a time with buses pulling out and pedestrians stepping off the kerb. In a manual, that’s constant clutch work. In an automatic, you ease off the brake and roll.
But easier doesn’t mean effortless. You still need the same observation, judgement and road positioning, and the driving test is the same test.
No. If you pass your test in an automatic, your licence only lets you drive automatic cars. To drive a manual later, you’d need to pass another practical test in a manual car.
For plenty of learners, that’s not a problem, especially as every fully electric car is automatic.
Our honest advice? If you’re likely to borrow a manual, drive a manual van for work or buy an older car, think twice. In that case, manual driving lessons (link: /manual-driving-lessons/) keep more options open. If none of that applies, automatic is a perfectly sensible way to get your licence.
Your right foot handles both the accelerator and the brake, while your left foot rests. Smooth braking and gentle pulling away take a little practice, so your early lessons focus there.
You’ll learn to read bus lanes, give cyclists room, pass parked cars on narrow streets and choose the right lane well before a busy junction.
As your test gets closer, you’ll practise the manoeuvres, independent driving and the “show me, tell me” vehicle safety questions examiners ask.

Automatic lessons are a good fit if you:
There’s no set number of hours. It depends on how often you have lessons, how much private practice you get and how you handle traffic. Without a clutch to master, though, many learners find they reach test standard sooner than they would in a manual.
If you’re in a hurry, an intensive course packs your lessons into a shorter time. It works best if you can clear your diary and enjoy learning in bigger chunks. If you prefer time to let each skill sink in, weekly two-hour lessons are the steadier option.
You don’t need any experience at all. Bring your provisional driving licence and wear shoes you can feel the pedals through.
No provisional licence yet? You can apply for one on GOV.UK before you book.

Automatic driving lessons in London with Drive Zire cost £45 per hour, with a two-hour minimum, so a standard lesson costs £90. For most learners, yes. There’s no clutch to control and no gears to change, so you can focus on observation, positioning and hazards. You still need the same skills and you take the same driving test, but many people find London’s stop-start traffic far less tiring in an automatic.
No. An automatic pass only lets you drive automatic cars. If you later want to drive a manual, you’ll need to pass another practical test in a manual car. That’s why it’s worth thinking about what you’re likely to drive over the next few years before you choose.
Female instructors are available at Drive Zire. Let us know when you book that you’d like a female instructor for automatic lessons, and we’ll tell you who is available in your part of London. Plenty of learners find they relax more quickly with an instructor they feel comfortable with.
Often, yes. Without the worry of stalling or choosing the right gear, many nervous learners find they settle in faster. We’re nervous driver specialists too, so your instructor will go at your pace and won’t push you onto busy roads before you’re ready.
Our intensive courses come in 10, 20 and 40-hour options, priced at £450, £1,080 and £1,980. The 20 and 40-hour courses include car hire for your test. Call 020 3667 3555 to check automatic availability for the dates you have in mind.
Yes. Bring your driving test report to your first lesson so your instructor can see where the faults were and focus on them from the start. Remember that passing in an automatic means your licence will only cover automatic cars.
You’ll need a valid provisional driving licence. You can usually start learning to drive a car at 17, or at 16 if you get the top rate of the mobility part of Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Wear comfortable shoes that let you feel the pedals.
