Bev was quick to respond to my query. Very helpful with information and finding times to get me lessons in my wonky schedule. Good, caring instruction from Charlene. A lot of flexibility with times and locations - and a lot of caring and helpful guidance. And they managed to get me test within a week of me finishing my lessons. Passed the first time. They were great.Posted on Google![]()

Today I passed my driving test and I can’t thank my instructor, Noel enough. He is so patient and helped to make the learning to drive experience calming and helped me to feel confident behind the wheel. Always super positive and really fun person to learn to drive with would highly recommended as an instructor especially if you are dyslexic as he has all the patience in the world to help you learn and to make mistakes and never makes you feel bad about it!Posted on Google![]()

A motorway driving lesson in London with Drive Zire costs £180 for four hours. That’s time to drive out of London and get used to higher speeds. You’ll also practise joining and leaving several times. It’s a single lesson, with no course to sign up for.
| Service | Duration | Price | What's Included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motorway lesson | 4 hours | £180 | Four hours of motorway driving with an experienced instructor |
| Pass Plus | 6 hours | £270 | Advanced course for newly qualified drivers |
| Refresher lesson | 2 hours minimum | £90 £45 per hour | One-to-one lesson for licence holders |
The practical driving test takes place on normal roads only. So most people pass without ever driving on a motorway. Then one day there’s a family visit or a new job. Suddenly the motorway is the only sensible route.
A motorway lesson after passing your test means your first time happens with an instructor beside you. That beats working it out alone on a busy Friday.
Our honest view? Take the lesson before you need it. It’s far easier to learn on a quiet weekday than on the morning of a long trip.
Four hours is enough to cover what new motorway drivers find hardest. Here’s where most of the lesson goes.
This is where most nerves start. You’ll practise building up speed on the slip road, checking your mirrors and finding a safe gap. Getting this right makes everything after it easier.
You’ll learn when to use each lane, how to overtake safely and when to move back. You’ll also practise keeping a safe gap from the car in front at higher speeds.
Many motorways around London now have overhead gantry signs. You’ll learn what the speed limits and red X signs mean. You’ll also learn what to do if a lane is closed. You can read the full motorway rules in the Highway Code on GOV.UK.
Exiting well is a skill too. You’ll practise reading the countdown markers, moving across in good time and slowing down safely on the slip road.
Motorway lessons suit anyone who wants to feel calm at higher speeds. That often includes:
Learners can have motorway lessons too, but only with an approved driving instructor in a car with dual controls.

If the thought of joining fast traffic makes your heart race, you’re not the only one. Nervous motorway driving lessons are often where people find the confidence they’ve been missing. You’ll go at your pace, and your instructor will explain each step before it happens.
We’re nervous driver specialists, so this is familiar ground for us. If you’d like more support on everyday roads first, have a look at our lessons for nervous drivers. And if you’d feel more comfortable with a woman beside you, female instructors are available.
Both include motorway driving, but they suit different people. A four-hour motorway lesson for £180 is a focused session on motorway skills. Pass Plus is a six-hour course for £270. It covers motorways, plus town, rural, night, all-weather and dual carriageway driving.
If motorways are your only worry, the motorway lesson makes more sense. If you’ve just passed and want a wider set of skills, Pass Plus might suit you better. Some insurers may also offer a discount for Pass Plus. See our Pass Plus course for

Yes. We teach in manual and automatic cars. So you can drive the type of car you’re used to. Many drivers find an automatic makes it easier to focus on lane changes and mirrors at speed. Just let us know when you book.

A motorway driving lesson with Drive Zire costs £180 for four hours. That’s long enough to drive out of London and settle in at higher speeds. You’ll also practise joining, overtaking and leaving several times. It’s a single lesson, so there’s no course or package to buy.
Yes, the law allows it. Learner drivers can drive on motorways only with an approved driving instructor in a car fitted with dual controls. Motorway lessons are voluntary for learners, and it’s up to your instructor to decide when you’re ready for one.
No. The practical driving test doesn’t include motorways. That’s why so many new drivers have never driven on one. A motorway lesson after passing your test fills that gap before you need to make a long journey on your own.
Yes. Nervous drivers are exactly who we specialise in. Your instructor will go at your pace, explain each step and help you build up gradually. Many people find that once they’ve joined and left the motorway a few times, the fear starts to fade.
If motorways are your only worry, a four-hour motorway lesson for £180 is the focused choice. Just passed and want night, rural and all-weather practice too? The six-hour Pass Plus course for £270 covers more ground. Some insurers may also offer a discount for Pass Plus.
Yes. We teach in manual and automatic cars. So you can take your lesson in the type of car you’re used to. If you only hold an automatic licence, you’ll need to have your lesson in an automatic. Let us know when you book.
Female instructors are available at Drive Zire. Just mention it when you book and we’ll let you know who is available in your part of London. Many drivers find it easier to relax on a motorway with an instructor they feel comfortable with.
Yes. Many motorways around London are smart motorways with overhead signs and variable speed limits. You’ll learn what the signs mean, such as a red X over a closed lane. You’ll also learn what to do if you break down with no hard shoulder.
